Important RECYCLING News
In keeping with the global trend to industry-owned environmental stewardship programs, the Province of New Brunswick has adopted a new standardized provincial recycling program. The new program holds the industry responsible for recycling the packaging of the products they produce and sell, with the goal to increase recycling behaviour, incentivize eco-friendly design of packaging, and keep costs down for residents.
Between May 1 and November 1, 2024, our region transitioned to the new provincial recycling program managed by Circular Materials, a non-profit organization hired by industry overseeing residential recycling across New Brunswick and in other locations across Canada. Circular Materials now decides which materials are accepted in blue bags, what should be brought to depots, and where those depots are located. As a result, Eco360 and local municipalities are no longer in charge of recycling within the overall waste management program.
To help ensure convenient access, Eco360’s main facility and Mobile Eco Depot events remain available to drop off items that can’t go in the blue bag. We also allow residents that cannot make it to a recycling depot to place non-curbside recyclables in the clear bag as a last resort.
Blue bag collection will continue as normal with no change in schedule, but with a new, revised sorting guide. If your bag does not meet the new guidelines, you may receive a notice on the bag, and the bag may not be collected.
These changes aim to create a more consistent, efficient, and high-quality recycling system across the province.

Soft & Flexible Packaging
Residents in Southeast New Brunswick are now asked to no longer place soft plastics—such as plastic wrap, grocery bags, bread bags, and bubble wrap—into their blue recycling bags. This change aligns with the region's transition to an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, which aims to enhance recycling efficiency and reduce contamination.
Proper Disposal Methods:
- Dedicated Drop-Off Locations: To recycle soft plastics, bring them to designated drop-off depots or utilize the Mobile Eco-Depot services. These facilities are equipped to handle soft plastics appropriately, ensuring they are processed correctly.
- Clear Garbage Bags: If you choose not to recycle soft plastics, please dispose of them in your clear garbage bags.
