WHAT IS ECO ASSISTANCE?

Eco Assistance is designed to support residents who face mobility, accessibility, or transportation barriers by providing convenient, at-home collection of household hazardous waste, free of charge.

The Eco Assistance service aims to improve access to proper disposal, ensuring that hazardous materials are handled safely and responsibly.

YOU CAN USE THIS SERVICE IF:

You face ANY of these barriers:
•    Mobility limitations
•    Accessibility barriers
•    Transportation barriers

AND
 

You reside in Westmorland or Albert County.
 

Residents who live in a single-unit home are eligible for free HHW pickup. This includes houses, semi-detached homes, and townhouses.


Please note that residents of apartments, condos, and other multi-unit buildings are not eligible for this service at this time.

HOW IT WORKS

We’ve simplified the disposal process for you. 
Just follow our guide below to ensure a safe and successful pickup.

STEP 1

Application

  • Request a pickup by either:
    • Our form on our website 
    • Or by phone 506-877-1040
STEP 2

Confirmation

  • Once you have submitted your Household hazardous waste pick-up request, our team will send out a confirmation to let you know the next available dates.
  • Bookings are handled on a first-come, first-served basis and are not guaranteed to be confirmed or scheduled
STEP 3

Preparation

  • Prepare your materials    
    Only eligible HHW items are set out 
     
  • Materials are sorted and separated by type 
    • Hazardous materials are not mixed together 
    • Items are placed in an open-topped box or container 
    • Boxes are not taped shut 
    • Items are not placed in plastic bags, garbage bags, or cloth grocery bags 
    • Liquids are in sealed, labeled, non-leaking containers 
    • Light bulbs are packaged carefully to prevent breakage
       
  • Materials are placed outside
    Place your box of HHW outside your front door or on the doorstep by the scheduled time.
     
STEP 4

Collection

  • Safe collection & disposal
    Our trained team will handle and transport the materials safely back to our facility.

    Please note that for safety and liability reasons, Eco Assistance staff will not enter residences, garages, or sheds.

Residents facing mobility, accessibility, or transportation barriers may request free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) pick-up through Eco360’s EcoAssistance Program.

Quantity Confirmation

  • The total amount does not exceed 25 litres
  • No single container exceeding 10 litres
  • No single item exceeds a weight of 50 lb / 23 kg
  • I am not setting out more than 5 paint cans (1 gallon / 3.78 L each)
  • I am not setting out more than one 20 lb (9.1 kg) propane tank
  • I am not setting out more than 4 fluorescent tubes (bulbs), each no longer than 4 ft /1.22m

  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Car batteries
  • 5-gallon pails or drums
  • Radioactive waste
